WASHINGTON, DC—When President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race on July 21, the big question was what his most important endorsers, such as North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), would do.
Biden’s pro-union, pro-infrastructure legacy drove the decision, and on July 25, NABTU announced its formal endorsement of Kamala Harris.
“North America’s Building Trades Unions, on behalf of the over 3 million Building Trades professionals we represent, proudly endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States,” said NABTU President Sean McGarvey.
“Harris not only possesses the vision, leadership, and dedication needed to lead our country forward; her accomplished record proves it,” McGarvey said. “Throughout her career, Vice President Harris has consistently demonstrated her sincere commitment to the deep values and critical priorities of Building Trades workers and their families. She has always stood up for the working class, fighting for fair wages, safe workplaces, labor protections, health and retirement security, and the economic opportunity that collective bargaining provides for all of America’s workers.
“The policies she has helped enact over the last four years, shoulder to shoulder with President Biden, are rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure and manufacturing sector, strengthening opportunity pipelines for historically underrepresented communities and reinvesting in the American middle class. These wins are huge for America’s economic viability and global security, and they are all at stake in this election.
“NABTU enthusiastically supports Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy and looks forward to her continued fight for working people as President. She is the only candidate in this race who will secure our wins by tying infrastructure, domestic manufacturing, and energy investments to working people instead of the MAGA Trump policy of giving the same old tax cuts to the rich. We are confident that if nominated, she will finish the job and continue to fight for the people who truly build and uphold our nation.”
