LA/OC Building & Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary Ernesto Medrano has released the following statement:

I am deeply shocked by the allegations against Cesar Chavez, and my thoughts are first and foremost with the victims of assault and abuse. While I have no firsthand knowledge of these allegations, I am grateful to those who have been victimized for coming forward to share their stories and experiences, in particular Ms. Murguia, Ms. Rojas, and UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta. As more information continues to come to light, I believe it is important to note that the LA/OC Building & Construction Trades Council will not be participating in any Cesar Chavez Day activities. With that said, this situation also does not diminish the work and the struggle of farmworkers, and we will continue to stand in solidarity with them in our fight for a safer and more just workplace.
