Today, the Los Angeles and Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council is pleased to see that a federal judge has ordered the immediate release of Brother Kilmar Abrego Garcia from immigration detention. Brother Abrego Garcia, who is a first-year apprentice of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers, was deported to El Salvador in March, an action which we strongly denounced earlier this year. His wrongful detention has shined a national spotlight not only on immigration policy, but the fundamental rights afforded to those who live in the United States. The Los Angeles and Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council strongly believes in due process and is fully supportive of Brother Abrego Garcia’s release from detention.
